If you develop your book to be a component in content marketing, it begins to work for you in a way to funnel more funds into your bank account. Leveraging the book to get “back end” revenue is one of the best things you can do at the same time you are marketing your book.

If you can start with enough interest in the book to get people to a website, where you also have other revenue producing products or services, you have a much better opportunity to sell something else, even if the book is not selected. If you are marketing your book and several other items in some way related to it, you get a broader client base.

One scenario might be that an attempt to work pay-per-click to get shoppers to come to your site produces some income, but under close scrutiny, you find that the cost is almost as much as the royalty that you are getting from the sale. This means you are doing no more than paying for the service. If the pay-per-click puts the buyer in a situation to buy the book and join a mailing list, you can probably generate more sales and actually put money in your pocket.

Learn from your experiences with one book so that you can generate more revenue from your next and each succeeding one. Identify all the potential revenue sources that you can create from the excitement of the book, and avoid the pitfalls you may have had because of marketing the wrong products or services.

Not every author develops a comfort zone with selling items other than books, but it is becoming increasingly necessary to keep an open mind when marketing your book so that you can increase income from several sources and allow yourself the luxury of staying in the writing business. That’s what it’s all about in the first place.
